	Samaritans is a registered charity based in the UK and the Republic of Ireland that provides confidential, emotional support to any person who is suicidal or despairing. Samaritans has been offering emotional support to those in distress for over 50 years. Despite the increase in the number of help lines across the UK, Samaritans volunteers are among the very few who are still available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Samaritans have a vision for a society where: Fewer people die by suicide People are able to explore their feelings People are able to acknowledge and respect the feelings of others The Leatherhead branch of Samaritans was established in 1965 and continues to support our local community. 		upcoming events Information Session Saturday January 14th 14:30 - 16:00 Leatherhead Institute This session is designed to give the potential volunteer an opportunity to find out a little more about Samaritans as an organisation and to have any questions they may have answered in an informal setting. Selection Day Saturday February 18th, 10:00 - 15:30 Leatherhead Institute This is usually post interview and must be attended in full. There are a variety of group activities that give an insight in to life as a Samaritan. This is an opportunity for the potential volunteer decide if Samaritans is right for them as well as meeting some other potential recruits and seasoned Samaritans.
