The time you give could make all the difference for someone in crisis. If you are prepared to listen patiently to another's distress, anger or despair, without judging them or giving advice, Samaritans wants to hear from you. Samaritans volunteers can be any age (over 18) and from any background, race or culture. You don't need any qualifications but you need to be:
Without
volunteers giving their time, we wouldn't be able to offer the service
that we do. We're always looking for people to join us, either as
a listening volunteer (taking calls, talking to visitors or replying
to emails) or as a Support Samaritan, helping out in one of the other
areas that are essential to keep us going.
We currently run our selection and training
programme twice a year, once starting in the March and again in September.
The selection process is specially designed to find out if you're
suited to become a listening volunteer for Samaritans - and just
as importantly, whether Samaritans is right for you.
If you get selected you'll start a comprehensive training program with a group of other new volunteers to make sure you're fully prepared before you're expected to take your first call.
